OpenAI has launched SearchGPT, a new tool that aims to integrate its AI capabilities into more aspects of daily life. This development comes after OpenAI’s efforts to expand the use of its AI technologies have been significantly bolstered.
SearchGPT introduces a new model designed to assist users in finding relevant information from various sources, as outlined in the company’s website for its search AI product.
The primary goal of SearchGPT is to merge the conversational capabilities of ChatGPT with the ability to provide answers from the internet and other platforms. “SearchGPT will swiftly and accurately respond to inquiries with the latest web information, while also providing clear references to related sources,” OpenAI describes the function of its AI search model.

The entity behind ChatGPT has announced its intention to begin accepting registrations for an early version of SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine. OpenAI has emphasized that this version is a prototype, with the “most advanced features” from this phase set to be incorporated directly into ChatGPT.
To access SearchGPT, users are encouraged to sign up, although the feature is currently not available for testing.
In terms of operation, SearchGPT functions similarly to ChatGPT. Users input a question, and the AI system scours the web for relevant information, presenting the results in a visually appealing and organized manner. It is also possible to engage in a conversation with the results to request more specific information.

As with any product from OpenAI, there are concerns regarding the accuracy and credibility of the information provided, even before the product is officially launched. For example, Kif Leswing from CNBC highlighted issues with the accuracy and usefulness of some search results in the initial announcement. OpenAI has committed to providing “clear links to relevant sources” in the results, but this has not been verified yet.
OpenAI acknowledges that it has a significant journey ahead before it can be considered a direct competitor to Google, but this launch of SearchGPT is seen as a promising initial step.

This development also raises questions for publishers, who are hopeful that OpenAI and other AI companies will adhere to copyright laws and properly attribute and compensate content used for training their AI models.
OpenAI has assured that SearchGPT is distinct from its model training processes and will offer publishers the opportunity to address any concerns and find the appropriate balance and recognition for their content. “In addition to the launch of SearchGPT, we are introducing a system for publishers to manage their visibility in SearchGPT, providing them with more control,” the announcement states further.
